Scope and applicable law
This policy is written for users in India and is intended to operate consistently with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 as their provisions come into force. The Information Technology Act, 2000, applicable rules and CERT-In directions may also apply to security, records and incident response.
The DPDP Rules, 2025 have staged commencement. References to a right or duty apply to the extent that the relevant legal provision is in force and applies to this website.
Official legal references
The following official sources are provided for reference. Applicable law and government notifications take priority over this summary.
Personal data we may receive
You can browse the static village pages without creating an account. Personal data may be received when you voluntarily email us, and limited technical data may be processed by hosting, security, analytics or advertising services.
- Your name, email address and message content
- The page URL, village details and supporting source sent with a correction request
- IP address, browser, device, date, time, requested URL, referrer and security event data in server logs
- Cookie, consent, analytics or advertising identifiers when those services are enabled
Why we process personal data
We process personal data only for a lawful and stated purpose, such as replying to an enquiry, checking a correction, handling a privacy request, protecting the website, complying with law or measuring and funding the service.
- Respond to messages and maintain correspondence
- Review corrections and prevent fraudulent or abusive submissions
- Operate, secure and troubleshoot the website
- Meet legal, regulatory, accounting or cyber-incident obligations
- Run analytics or advertising only under the applicable notice and consent settings
Consent and choice
Where consent is the basis for processing, the request should be clear and limited to data needed for the stated purpose. You may withdraw consent by emailing the relevant address, subject to processing that is required by law or needed to complete an earlier request.
Do not email Aadhaar numbers, bank details, passwords, OTPs, medical records, caste certificates or other sensitive documents. We do not need them for ordinary contact or village-data correction.
Sharing and service providers
We do not sell personal data. Data may be shared only when needed with hosting, email, security, analytics, advertising or professional service providers acting for the website, or with authorities when required by applicable law.
Some service providers may process data outside India. Any transfer is subject to applicable Indian law and the safeguards offered by the provider.
Retention
General email and correction records are kept only for as long as reasonably needed to answer the request, maintain an audit trail, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations. Security logs may be retained for the period required by applicable law, hosting arrangements or CERT-In directions.
Data that is no longer required should be deleted or anonymised, unless continued retention is legally required.
Security and incidents
Reasonable technical and organisational safeguards should be used for email accounts, hosting, access control, backups and incident response. No online service can promise absolute security.
Report a suspected privacy or security issue to grievance@nagaland.villagecodes.in. Do not include passwords, OTPs or unnecessary identity documents.
Your privacy requests
Subject to applicable law, you may ask about personal data that you directly provided, request correction or erasure, withdraw consent, or raise a grievance. Send the request from the same email address used earlier where possible and describe the request clearly.
We aim to acknowledge a privacy request within 7 working days and respond within 30 days. A complex or legally sensitive matter may take longer, but the grievance process will not exceed 90 days where the applicable DPDP rule requires that limit.
Children
The website is a general public directory and is not designed to collect personal data from children. A child should not send personal documents or correction requests without the involvement of a parent or lawful guardian.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when website features, service providers or applicable law change. The revised date will be shown at the top of the page. Material changes should be explained clearly.
